LANCASHIRE GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE NO LONGER ABLE ACCEPT DOGS WITH BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS FOR REHOMING BUT ARE HAPPY TO GIVE YOU ADVICE TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS YOU MAY BE HAVING

We are recognised by the Kennel Club as a Breed Specific Rescue.

If you are looking to give a home to a rescue GSD in the hope of taking on a dog who is already trained please think again. Many of our dogs do have impeccable manners and are beautifully well trained as they have come from good homes, perhaps from a marriage split up or change of circumstances that mean that a loving owner can no longer take care of their dog as they would wish to. However, some of our dogs have unsettled backgrounds, and may need a lot of support to help re-socialise them. We do not always know the background of our dogs and can only tell you what we have found out about them whilst they have been living with us. There are situations you may come across in your home that upset them that we won't know about purely because your circumstances are different than ours. We tell you as much as we possibly can about the dog and any background we have been given including their past health. If you are willing to accept that a Rescue Dog may need a lot of your time and you are willing to give him/her your full commitment then please read on and take a look at our orphans.

If you would like to read more about us first please go to the "More K9 Info" page.

DESPITE WHAT WE HAVE WRITTEN ABOVE WE ARE GETTING INCREASING NUMBERS OF PEOPLE WHO ASSURE US OF PREVIOUS GSD EXPERIENCE AND AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE NEEDS OF A RESCUE DOG BEING RE-INTEGRATED WITH A NEW FAMILY ONLY TO HAVE THE DOG RETURNED A FEW WEEKS (EVEN DAYS) LATER. THEY TELL US THAT THE DOG IS DOING "EXACTLY" WHAT WE TOLD THEM TO EXPECT !! AND THAT THEY HAVE TRIED AND TRIED (IN A FEW DAYS/WEEKS?) TO DO AS WE HAVE SAID. OR EVEN WORSE WE HAVE ADVISED THEM TO BE AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF e.g. SEPARATION ANXIETY AND TOLD THEM HOW TO AVOID IT - WE GET A PHONE CALL A FEW WEEKS ON AND THE DOG IS THROUGHLY STRESSED AND CAN WE TAKE HER BACK. WE HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING !! MISGUIDED ADVICE FROM FRIENDS WHICH HAS BEEN THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE. (THEY HAVENT ASKED US FOR HELP)

So please, please, do not fall into the romanticised idea of rehoming a dog to give it a new start and new home, no matter how well intentioned, if you do not have the experience ESSENTIAL to the dogs needs and a willingness to ask us for advice (which is backed up by experienced behavourists and trainers) instead of well meaning friends. We make no apologies for this seeming harsh - we want you and your dog to be companions for life, happy in each other's company and this doesn't happen overnight! It takes hard work and dedication in many cases but if you ARE dedicated it will happen!!

This young man is Freddie (See photograph), a compulsive tail chaser who almost had to have his tail amputated because it became infected. It has been a period of hard work and frustration at times but perservence pays off - he is now a champion at agility! His energies are channeled and he has his own "stress toys" for in the home. He is now part of a happy family with Zander and Amy. His proud Dad is Ted, director of the rescue and if he can do it the little free time he has available then so can YOU!

DONATIONS

As we have said above donations are always welcome by sending a cheque through the post. But did you know that we also have sponsors who donate weekly or monthly by direct debit? This is so easy to do just ask us for a sponsor pack via the contacts page (including your address) and we will send you two forms - one for our records and one a direct debit mandate for your bank. Fill them both in and send one back to us and one to the bank. We will also send you a leaflet telling you a little about us. If you choose to sponsor a specific dog we will try to keep you updated with their progress though most people just sponsor "any". As the dogs often come and go so quickly they feel that is best. You can choose to donate weekly, monthly or just annually whichever you prefer.

Donations of any size are welcome though we do have sponsors like Caroline Wood who donates weekly by this method. She has made sure from the start that our payment is the first one to be made each month. She says in this way we are sure to get it and you don't miss it - this adds up to quite an amount each year! As she has been donating for several years, since adopting Casey and later on Sasha, it has amounted to several thousand pounds in all over the years for which we thank her from the bottom of our hearts.

So why not contact us and join our regular donators - it needn't be much - it all adds up!

Thanks go to everyone who donates to us be it time, money, food, toys, bedding etc which makes our dogs as much at home as they possibly can be in their time with us.

We would like to thank Maureen Battle (and her dog Otis) for the donation of many k9 items from her pet shop in Whiston and all her customers for their cash donations which they have given her for us. She has also given Cassie our white shepherd a new bed which she will be using after her bath on Sunday.

K9 INFORMATION

LUCY AND BABE

We are sure you have read all about us by now and how we came to be here. We are feeling sad at the moment because no-one seems to want a pair of 6 year old girls. Jan's friend Sue (who adopted Sasha) came to help walk us because we don't like to be apart for too long. We were on our way back here and quite happy to sit for our photo shoot. We get excited on the way out at first because we do so love to be out.

Please use the contacts page or let Jan know if you are interested in adopting us. We have never lived with young children and love to chase cats.
