TWO NEW BOOKS TO ADD TO YOUR SHOPPING LIST

These two books are well thumbed and off our shelves regularly. It is always good to have a different view point be it training, behaviour or "medicine". There are varying opinions on homeopathic remedies but they have proved very useful for some of our k9s and may be something you wish to try if you want a more natural approach to health and wellbeing of your best pal!

Everything You Need to Know about German Shepherds
ISBN 13:978-0-7153-2493-6
ISBN 10:0-7153-2493-4

The Homeopathic Treatment of Small Animals

Understanding the Rescue Dog by Carol Price. ISBN 1874092885
This is a particularly relevant book and whilst not written with the GSD especially in mind is a very good, easy to read and understand, book.

Understanding the German Shepherd Dog by John Cree. ISBN 1-86126-342-2

Training The German Shepherd Dog by John Cree. ISBN 1-86126-599-X

The Natural Remedy Book for DOGS & CATS, Diane Stein ISBN 0895946866

BARF Diet books by Dr Ian Billinghurst – written as a series but can stand alone. No ISBN available sorry. Order line 02086688011 but try your library for a copy for these or any of the other books.

HYDROTHERAPY & MASSAGE

Anne Johnson has been providing hydrotherapy treatments for many years in the pool she had built for her own Labradors which she breeds. She lets out the use of her pool to other dogs in need of non-weight bearing exercise following operations or to build up muscle tone which had been lost due to periods of inactivity. The dogs really enjoy swimming and can also play ball in the water. The long leads are used to give the dog confidence but also with one walker on each side so the dog must use both sides equally to help strengthen the weaker side. There are steps at the corner so that the dog can walk slowly in (particularly good if your dog is a little nervous at first and stops you getting soaked with the dog jumping in!)

Anne also takes veterinary referrals for many different conditions – orthopaedic problems, post-operative rehabilitation, obesity, arthritic conditions, but some dogs do come just for fun and fitness. She consults with owners on suitable rehabilitation exercises which they can then follow up at home.

Also available are one and two-day workshops in hydrotherapy.

As well as the pool (which Anne has recently had refurbished) there are magnetic therapy treatments and massage. Anne has recently qualified in canine massage but this requires your vet’s permission.

There is a drying area where the dogs can be towelled down afterwards and a blow drier wihch is essential in wintertime.

Although grooming isn't available Anne does bath dogs too.

Please contact Anne via email: teazledownlabs@talktalk.net
or her phone number is 01772 335930 if you prefer

Anne is in the Longton area of Preston. Parking space is available.

MICROCHIP YOUR BEST FRIEND

Has your dog ever got out when you thought the door was shut, maybe a visitor or the children didn't shut it properly? And wasn't it with a sigh of relief you found him sniffing around in your neighbours garden? What if he'd gotten further afield, hadn't got his collar on? What would you have done then? Informed the vet and dog wardens and gone looking for him but secure in the knowledge that they would contact you if he got to them first because your details are held on the microchip logs? What! He's NOT chipped? Time to get him done then.... Many local vets provide this service. It isn't free but doesn't cost too much - but what price to have your K9 returned safe and sound. We make sure we microchip all the dogs before they leave us.

Don't forget to update your details when you move as a microchip is only as good as the information on record. Don't forget too that if you use a mobile number as contact to update this too if you change your number.

All dogs must carry an identification disc with the dogs name on it and a contact telephone number. We don't advise that your address is also on there but we do suggest that you have your vet's number on the reverse and your surname so they can locate you. The tag is the first line of identfication but they can get lost especially if your pet has been out for a while and got caught up on something. If you dog is chipped make sure you put the chip "tag" or "scan me" on his collar too.

DON'T JUST THINK ABOUT IT - DO IT!

Here's Moo definitely not ready for the great escape.....but the door is firmly closed and locked!
