LANCASHIRE GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE

LANCS GSD RESCUE INFORMATION PAGES

Welcome to our Information Pages. You can find out how we began, details about dog washes, training, agility, k9 hydrotherapy etc. Throughout these pages you will also find links to various websites which we have found useful and links to “Big Names” such as Dogs Trust, The Kennel Club etc. Please browse the pages to see what you can find. If you find any links that are not working please contact us with the name of the link and the page you found it on as we are in the process of reorganising the information. If you have any comments or suggestions of what to include on the site please let us know. We ARE limited in the scope of what we can do with the format but please let us know if there is anything you would really like to see that we haven't thought of.

CONTACT US
--------------
There is a contact page on each part of the site but please do not use both as they are directed to the same email address. Please ensure your email address is correct and that you include a contact telephone number preferably a landline. In the subject line of the contact please tell us if you are in need of rehoming (REHOME) your dog or wish to adopt (ADOPT) with the name of the dog(s) you are interested in. We will then send you the appropriate forms and any further information you have requested by email (or post if you have used an internet café or library to access the website – please also include your full address and postcode if this is the case).

On this first page you will find current up to date news that maybe has hit the headlines, or events/places where will be having a stand. A weekly news from Director Ted (If we aren't too busy with taking in and rehoming the doggys that is). So watch this space for current events. The following pages may remain the same for a while as this is information that you may want to go back to for reference.

TED'S WEEKLY NEWS - 28 JUNE

IN TEN MINUTES A DOG CAN DIE FROM HEATSTROKE WHEN SHUT IN A CAR

Show day and people were out in their hundreds (thousands?) The sun was out the ground was dry - all set for a good show and in many ways it was. Many of the dogs taking part had their own places in the shade of the roomy show tent "kennels" away from the heat and the hustle and bustle. Sadly though the day was marred for me by the countless announcements over the loudspeakers for people to return to their cars as the dogs were in distress! I heard that one or two cars had windows smashed by vets when the owners didn't return in order to prevent death by heatstroke. I also heard that sadly one of them had died!

So PLEASE - NEVER leave your dog in the car. NO, not even with the window open, not even in the shade (the sun moves round and your shade is gone)

I sometimes take my pack for a walk around the shows but knew today was going to be too hot so they stayed home. The van large with a fan is still no place for a dog when they don't need to be out.

Here's my lad Zander sporting his doggles - he can't be out in the sun without them as you've most probably read. He doesn't always like them and I can't explain to him why he should wear them but I think he's starting to feel quite ok about them! Don't you?

FUTURE EVENTS

The weather was not so kind to us at Ruffs but though it was cold and windy and on and off wet all who were there had a great time. We had to abandon the idea of setting up stall as much of what we have would have been ruined with the rain - fingers crossed for the next one!

And just look at these 2? 3? no! 4 showoffs!

Whilst we were at Myerscough busy with the agility it was hard for anyone to take time out with the camera, however a friend of mine from County Hall, where I used to work, was there. He took some marvellous ones of Freddy in action. Follow the link for the photos, two of Freddy, one of Indy and some of the Border Collies

TRAINING DAYS BY "DOGTASTIC" MARK

It doesn’t seem long since the first Sunday when Mark ran a “trial” session to see how it would go. That one was quickly fully booked and, through word of mouth and the websites, what was originally planned to be a “Once a Month” event became so popular that he’s has had to keep adding extra days to keep up with the demand!

It costs just £20 per dog and includes obedience, agility, socialisation, flyball AND refreshments! A great day for you and a great day for your dog!

Sessions are held at:

Rosemary Farm
Rosemary Lane
Bartle
PRESTON
PR4 0HB

come rain or come shine (we prefer the shine but use the indoor arena on wet days)

The dates so far are:

12 July - fully booked
26 July - fully booked
16 August - fully booked
13th Sept - 10am 'til 3 pm - places left but act quickly to reserve yours!

Everyone who has been thoroughly enjoys them and wants to book another session so act fast and give Mark a call on 07950486661 to reserve a place. These days are always fully booked so please don’t turn up on the day hoping there will have been a cancellation, call in advance and make your booking.

Mark jokingly says it is turning into a German Shepherd Appreciation Society but does welcome dogs of all shapes, sizes and abilities.

TWENTY WAGGING TALES - Our year of rehoming orphan dogs

This is the title of a book which we received a copy of in the post. It has been written by a couple, who like us, rehome the wonderful GSD in East Anglia. We neither of us knew about the other until now. I (Ted) had a good chat with the author who told me how 10% of the book's royalites are going back into their GSD Rescue.

Its a heart warming and often hilarious tale about the orphan GSDs and it costs just £7.99 plus £2 postage. It is a wonderful book to read curled up at night by the fireside with your GSD's.

Out stocks have arrived! Let us know if you would like to order one - use the contacts page headed with WAGGING TALES adding your own contact details in the message box. We will email you back with details of where to send your cheque which will be made payable to Lancs GSD Rescue.

BUYING THIS BOOK THROUGH US WILL ALSO BENEFIT LANCS GSD RESCUE - AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU.
