ONLINE SAFETY

We've worked hard to make sure that the hotel is as safe as it can be.

Habbo Hotel is moderated 24 hours a day, every day, by professional moderators backed-up by a team of 180 trained hotel guides.

Learn more about our moderation, language filters and how we keep your details safe.

What is Habbo Hotel?

Habbo Hotel is a virtual hotel where you can hang out and make new friends. It's designed for 14 to 20 year olds in the UK, but everyone is welcome.

When you register you 'become' a Habbo and then you can walk, dance, eat, drink and chat in the cafes, restaurants, swimming pools and games rooms. You can even decorate and furnish your own room.

It's not hard to break into conversation for the first time and you'll soon find a friend who has something in common with you. And you don't need to worry - we won't tell anyone your personal details and we've worked hard to make the hotel safe (read more about our safety and privacy policies here).

So use the hotel for whatever you want - as a messenger, email system, chatroom, place to hang out with your friends or to meet new people. And yes, there are a few rules, but only to make the experience safe and fun for as many Habbos as possible. Enjoy!

The Habbo Way

Habbo Hotel is a place where people come to relax, hang out and make new friends in a safe, non-threatening environment. The rules are very simple. Stick to them and you'll have fun; break them and you'll get yourself banned.

You must not:

Use any hacking, scripting or editing program within the hotel
Steal other Habbos' Credits or furniture
Describe sexual acts to other Habbos
Pester people who don't want to talk to you
Swear or use sexually graphic terms or be racist
Ask other Habbos for their password, email addresses or other personal information
Type your password anywhere except in the 'Check in' box on www.habbohotel.com
Break the law in the hotel or talk others into breaking it

You should:

Have fun!
Hang out with your friends
Make new friends
Respect other people's views and beliefs

Parent's guide to Habbo Hotel

What is Habbo Hotel?
It's a virtual hotel, where teenagers can hang out and chat. Each person in the hotel is represented by a personalised figure called a Habbo. It's a bit like a computer game, but all the characters are real people in different places.

Who's it for?
It's aimed at 14 to 20 year olds from the UK, but anybody can register.

Does it cost anything to go to Habbo Hotel?
It is free to register and check into the hotel - there are many Habbos who enjoy the service for free. We only charge for 'extras' like gaming elements (diving in the swimming pools), text messaging from the Console and room furnishings (referred to as 'furni' by most Habbos).

These items are paid for with Habbo Credits, the hotel's currency. Credits can be bought in a variety of secure ways, such as by mobile phone text message, cheque or money (postal) order, from a home phone*, and by Splash Plastic (a teen pre-pay card). To find out more about buying Habbo Credits, including costs, please click here.

*We do NOT operate automatic 'diallers' - the only way a charge can appear on your telephone bill is if someone in your house has picked up your phone and dialled our Habbo Credits Line number (09056575575). We always tell our members to ask bill payer's permission before using any of our payment methods. If you would like further details on these methods, including how to block access to them, please contact us.

Is it a safe place for my child?
Habbo Hotel is patrolled 24 hours a day by hotel guides called Hobbas. Hobbas can be recognised by their badges. Hobbas can alert, kick and temporarily ban Habbos who break the rules. Hobbas can be asked for help from any room in the hotel through the blue question mark.

Habbo Hotel is moderated 24 hours a day, every day, by professional moderators backed-up by a team of 180 trained hotel guides (members). The staff members are trained moderators and all are police vetted. If you'd like to help out as a hotel guide, please apply here or email us (choose 'I'm a parent').

Every conversation in the hotel passes through the Bobba Filter before it appears on the screen. This filters out swearing, racist and sexist terms and other words unsuitable for children. The filter also covers Habbo names and missions, and room names and descriptions. The filters are updated on a daily basis and contain many hundreds of words and terms.

In addition to these measures we also work hard to educate our members about being safe in the hotel and online in general. Along with our prominent safety information, we produce a weekly safety newsletter, HabboHood Watch and display safety messages while Habbos are moving from room to room.

Are my child's personal details safe with Habbo Hotel?
We have a strict Privacy Policy and will not share your child's details with anyone, be they fellow Habbos or companies other than Habbo Ltd. In addition, all Habbo Ltd staff members have been police vetted to work with children.

Why do you ask for my child's email address and mobile phone number?
One of the reasons we ask for email addresses is so that we can send password reminders. Habbos can choose whether they want to receive emails from us (such as the hotel newsletters).

We also ask for email addresses (and mobile phone numbers) so that your child can use the Habbo Console effectively. The Console lets them send instant messages to other Habbos in the hotel and email and text messages to Habbos who aren't online. We designed this tool specifically to stop them giving out their personal details - when emails and text messages are sent from the Console, email addresses or phone numbers are not revealed to either party. In addition, only people they have chosen to be on their Friends List can contact them in this way and it is very easy to remove someone from this list if needs be.

Can my child's Habbo Credits or 'furni' be stolen?
Not if your child keeps their password secret. Someone else needs to know their password to check into the hotel as them and take their 'furni' or spend their Credits. Unfortunately, children are very trusting and can be taken in by scammers. To counteract this we developed Scam Busters, which provides information and advice on how to keep Habbo accounts secure.

If you do not have any anti virus software, your computer could be at risk from keyloggers, which are files sent to you via email or instant messengers. We recommend you install Bullguard. You can get a free 3 month trial through Habbo by clicking here.

How can I get further information about Habbo Hotel?
This guide only provides a simple outline of the hotel - more detailed information can be found in our FAQs. If you have a specific question please use our Contact Us form to email us - choose 'I'm a parent' from the drop down menu.

Scam Busters

Habbo Hotel is a pretty cool place to hang out, but there are some meanies about. These nasty people want to steal your furni, Habbo Friends and more.

By reading about how these scammers work, you can make sure you don't fall for their tricks. Bookmark this page to keep one step ahead.

Scamming is against the Habbo Way and the law - all scammers will be banned forever. Please report scammers here (we won't tell them who told us).

ADVERT: make sure your computer is protected from viruses (including keyloggers) by downloading Bullguard - get a 3 month free trial with Habbo!

HABBO CREDITS

What are Habbo Credits?
Habbo Credits are the hotel's currency - they are what you use to pay for extra services in the hotel, like diving and furniture for your guest room.

And how much do they cost?
Habbo Credits cost around 10p each, depending on which method you use to buy them. To find out the exact costs please visit your Habbo Purse, after you check in (approximate costs below).

Do I need Credits to play in Habbo Hotel?
No! You only need Habbo Credits if you want to buy extra services.

And what is my Habbo Purse?
Your Habbo Purse is where all your Habbo Credits are kept.

How can I buy Habbo Credits?
There are five different ways you can buy Habbo Credits:

by calling the Habbo Credits Line from your home phone (calls cost £1, for 10 Credits; limited to £10 a day or £25 a week).
by sending an SMS (text message) from your mobile phone (15 Credits for £1.50; limited to £15 a day).
by using a Splash Plastic card (10p per Credit)
by using a credit card (US and Canada only)
by sending in a cheque or postal/money (11p per Credit)
To find out how to use the different methods, you need to look in your Habbo Purse when you are inside the hotel.

POET'S CORNER: Pressie Scam
-o-.felicity.-o-, Habbo

I was happily playing on Habbo one eve,
I was having so much fun I didn't want to ever leave,
I was in a race room,
Vroom, vroom, vroom,
When a boy came along, singing this song...
"I have so many Credits, Credits, Credits..."
He went on and on!
I looked at him and said: "How many have you got?"
He replied: "I can't really remember, but it is alot! I'll buy you a pet, if you give me a rare!"
Wow this is gonna be good, I thought.
A pet to hug and and keep me snug!
If only, if only I'd seen
How silly I was being!
Did he buy me a pet? No, he bought me a duck.
I stared in dismay, couldn't belive my bad luck!
So a message to all Habbos is just this!
Unless you trust them, give those pressies a miss!

COMPETITION RULES

You must phone between 9am on Friday, February 13, 2004, and midnight on Thursday February 19, 2004, to enter.
Each time a Habbo phones the competition line, he or she will receive 2 Habbo Credits. These will be awarded immediately.
Habbo Ltd will choose the winner(s) at random from all correct entries, and this decision is final.
The winner will be contacted by email - please make sure you have put your current email address in your Habbo ID.
There is no cash equivalent for any of the prizes.
Please allow 28 days for delivery of the prizes.
The competition is not open to employees of Habbo Ltd and Habbo Hotel partners and their families.
Habbo Ltd cannot be blamed for entries not received through equipment failure, or for any damage that results from participation in the competition, or through the use of the prizes.
By entering the competition, entrants agree to have their Habbo names used in publicity.
Competition open to UK residents only.
No purchase neccessary.

To play Wobble Squabble, you need a ticket. The tickets are the same ones that can also be used to dive in the Lidos.

When you have a ticket, you can climb on the inflatables to queue for your turn. The game starts when two players are ready, one at each end.

You can play with the same ticket until you're knocked off by your opponent.

When the game starts, you see a window (see the picture below). On the right is a balance meter. When the hand points straight up (like in the picture), you're perfectly balanced. When it points to the right, you need to balance to the left, and vice versa. If the hand drops too far to either side (so it's horizontal), you'll fall into the water and lose.

If you are wobbling all over the place, you can get your balance back once during the game using the 'stabilise' button (space bar).

The aim of the game is to balance on the inflatables and make your opponent fall into the water by pushing them. You can move towards or away from them - you win by staying on the inflatables while your opponent falls into the water. The loser will be replaced by the next player in the line and the winner carries on playing until he/she falls in the water.

If you're both really good, the game will end when the time runs out (after 90 seconds). If neither player has fallen off by then, the one who has been pushed the most will fall off and lose.
