Camps In the Army Cadet Force, we go on many weekend camps, approximately one every six weeks. These are from Friday evening until Sunday late afternoon. We go away to an army barracks, and either stay in billets (on camp; in rooms) or on the training area (where we camp out). We complete parts of our training that we are unable to do on a unit night, such as expedition, fieldcraft etc. We put a lot of our theory that we have learnt into practice. A weekend camp costs approximately £7.50 which includes, food, travel, accomodation and activities. At Easter, we often have a 5 day camp, whether it is a battle one or a camp where we stay on the camp. Come August time, the ACF have the main camp which is for two weeks. This is when the majority of the APC training and testing is done, along with activities such as watermanship: canoeing, rafting etc and often rock climbing. Two weeks in a row can be very tiring, so the cadets as well as the adults get a "whoopee day" which is a day off the camp, visiting a local town. Here, everyone is free to do as they please; cinema, beach, shopping, arcades or whatever else is around. The whole of annual camp (NOT including spending money) comes to approximately £40, so it is a relaxing 2 weeks for mum and dad at home, and a fun packed time for the children.FOR SW LONDON ACF, ANNUAL CAMP 2004 IS BEING HELD AT KNOOK. IN AUGUST 2004 - BE PREPARED TO HAVE A TIRING, YET EXCITING TIME! Honestly, the food on camps is edible, the accommodation basic but adequate; at such a bargain price, you cannot expect a five star hotel. Camps are the one of the highlights of cadet life as you have the oppotunity to meet people from other units around SW London, and try activities you may never have done. After training has finished in the evening, the cadets have NAAFI time, where they can go to the NAAFI and play pool, listen to music and play computer games. They are out of uniform wearing civilian clothing and get a chance to socialise and relax |
